Do you know how safe your child is online?

As a school we are delighted to be able to provide children with the use of ICT equipment to help deliver our curriculum. It is essential to ensure that all children are aware of and understand a range of e-safety issues.

For parents and carers the use of internet on devices such as ipads, mobile phones etc has opened up a whole new world of dangers. As a parent it can sometimes be a struggle to keep up with what our children are doing online.

As a school we use google safesearch which allows children to browse the internet safely as it filters what is available for the children to see.

Please click on the link below to find ways to support your child when using the internet.

Did you know that:-

  • adverts pop up on many social media sites relative to your date of birth, therefore registering your child on a site using a false date of birth can lead to highly inappropriate adverts being viewed by your child
  • not setting privacy settings appropriately particularly on social media sites, can allow anyone to access information / photos of your child  and or your family depending on what has been posted
  • most sites including facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram and even minecraft have a minimum age of 13+.
  • Some free apps have in-app purchases which can become very expensive
  • Registering your child on a social media site under a false date of birth can leave you very vulnerable if something goes wrong
  • they say images posted on Snapchat only last for 10 seconds, BUT these photos can be screen shot and then they can be posted on social media or passed around by others
  • Sites like Sarahah use anonymous comments and although good comments can boost your child's self-esteem they can also be used to post very negative comments and you will never know who made them!
